Counseling Pastor

We are a multilingual and multigenerational evangelical church in Cerritos. We are looking for a passionate Youth Pastor to provide oversight and pastoral leadership to our small youth group. The Youth Pastor will work with parents to engage students with the Good News of the Gospel, support them in developing their love for Jesus and others, and disciple them.

The Youth Pastor will shepherd, disciple, and care for middle school and high school students within a Chinese-heritage church context. This role includes building relationships with youth and parents, partnering with the larger church community, and developing a Gospel-centered youth and family ministry that engages both American-born and immigrant-background students. Recruiting and developing volunteers is an integral part of this ministry and position, strengthening the effectiveness of the volunteer ministry.

The Youth Pastor will lead programs, volunteer teams, and spiritual formation efforts that help students mature in their faith and integrate into the life of the whole church.

• Teaching and preaching responsibilities on Friday night fellowship, Sunday worship and Sunday School
• Recruiting and training adult volunteers
• Regular visitations and counseling with youth and families
• In addition to pastoral duties, the youth director is expected to participate regularly in meetings, churchwide events, and administration.
• Organize special retreats, camps, mission trips, outreach activities, and service projects.
• Special tasks may be assigned from time to time.

• A mature, growing disciple of Jesus Christ with a passion for youth and family ministry.
• Clear calling to ministry.
• Seminary or Bible school training from accredited university (M.Div. preferred, but not required)
• Preferably experience with the Chinese church or serving English-speaking youth in an immigrant church.
• Spiritually mature with gifts in leadership, administration, teaching, preaching, and discipling
• Understanding of youth culture
• Teachable and open to feedback and accountability

• Statement of faith
• Two to three references (including a pastor or ministry supervisor)
• Sample sermon/teaching (video or audio preferred)

The Counseling Pastor oversees biblical counseling at North River Church. He will faithfully offer counsel and equip others to counsel those who need healing and hope at North River Church.

• Have a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a passionate, growing, personal relationship with Him
• Demonstrate spiritual maturity, be committed to the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, and desire Christlikeness in personal character
• Be teachable and willing to be held accountable
• Be a team player with a positive attitude
• Be a member, or willing to become a member, of NRC
• Be fully committed to the doctrine, vision, and philosophy of NRC

• Master’s Degree, Seminary or ministry degree in counseling preferred
• Ministry experience counseling and equipping volunteers

• Faithfully shepherd, love, and model Jesus Christ to the church family
• Develop and oversee a biblical counseling ministry
• Create various avenues for people to receive counsel
• Provide and facilitate pastoral care and counseling for those needing help, healing, and hope
• Identify, recruit, train, equip, and encourage volunteer counselors
• Work with the other ministry areas to develop a biblical counseling model that has preventative soul care as a priority and clear on-ramps and qualifications for intensive counseling

Leading our youth on Wednesday night and Overseeing Sunday morning Sunday School and leading Sunday night Discipleship Training.
