Student Assistant - Peer Tutor - Academic Success Centre
Keyano College’s Academic Success Centre is currently seeking a Peer Tutor (Student Employee) to help students with tutoring. Peer tutors are scheduled up to 9 hours per week, based on operational needs, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
OverviewPeer tutors are integral members of the team, collaborating with staff and fellow tutors to support Keyano College students. They are current students who excelled in the subjects they tutor and are committed to sharing knowledge to help others achieve similar academic success.
Duties & Responsibilities- Work one-on-one or with small groups of students, clarifying concepts covered during classroom instruction.
- Conduct review sessions and facilitate study groups.
- Explain concepts to fellow students clearly and check for understanding.
- Model problem‑solving techniques.
- Coach students in essential learning skills.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to understand student challenges and ways to support learning.
- Promote the Academic Success Centre to students.
- Sought help of Academic Success Centre staff appropriately while tutoring.
- Participate in training and mentorship sessions to develop effective tutoring skills.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as required.
- Work a 3‑hour shift to adhere to the CUPE Collective Agreement.
- Other duties as required.
- Must be a registered Keyano College student and legally allowed to work on campus.
- Minimum one year of post‑secondary education completed.
- B+ letter grade or higher in the course(s) you wish to tutor.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts.
- Outstanding interpersonal and intercultural skills.
- Able to work one-on-one in a collaborative and diverse environment that supports student learning.
- Demonstrate organizational and study skills.
- Knowledge of technology and online platforms including Keyanomail, One Drive, PDFs, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom/MS Teams, Moodle, Self‑Service and other software programs.
- A commitment to promoting the Academic Success Centre’s equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging values and endeavors.
- Strong ethics and adherence to Keyano College policies to avoid over‑tutoring and ensure student work is the student’s own.
- College‑level coursework.
- Tutoring or volunteer experience.
- Knowledge of the Access to Information Act (AITA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).
CUPE Student Rate – $20.43 per hour.
