Role OverviewClinical Operations Medical Director for Carelon Medical Benefit Management, focused on Radiation Oncology. This role enables associates to work virtually full-time, with required in-person training sessions. The position requires staying within a reasonable commuting distance unless accommodations are permitted.
Key Responsibilities- Ensures timely completion of clinical case reviews for board‑certified specialty.
- Makes physician‑to‑physician calls to gather medically appropriate information to determine medical necessity for services requested.
- Makes medical necessity determinations for grievance and appeals appropriate for their specialty.
- Ensures consistent use of company medical policies when making medical necessity decisions.
- Brings to supervisors attention any case review decisions that require Medical Director review or policy interpretation.
- MD or DO with board certification from an approved board (ABMS or AOA).
- Active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with clinical case reviews for medical necessity; waiver available for certain specialties with board certification.
- Board certified in Radiation Oncology.
