This position will provide professional and accurate inspection services as a member of the Building Division of the Planning and Development Services Department. This position will inspect buildings under construction and/or repair, as assigned, to ensure conformity with approved plans and building codes and enter inspection results into the LIMS database. This position has a high level of customer interaction and will build and foster a positive working relationship and maintain an excellent customer service standard when interfacing with both internal and external customers.
Responsibilities- Inspects buildings under construction, alteration and/or repair, as assigned, to ensure conformity with approved plans and building codes.
- Reviews plans and specifications for proposed construction buildings and building improvements; issues notices of code violations applicable to their license(s).
- Enters results of inspections into the Land Information Management System (LIMS) database, and prepares reports, worksheets and daily activity reports.
- Researches files and databases and maintains a variety of source background materials for reports.
- Provides and maintains an excellent customer service standard in answering questions from the public pertaining to building issues, codes and ordinances; interfaces positively with peers, co-workers and other customers across the enterprise.
- Acts in assigned capacity in the event of any County declared emergency.

- TIER I
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Four (4) years of experience in the Plumbing construction trade or related field inspection or plans review.
- Bachelor’s Degree or courses from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Fire Administration, Building Construction/Inspection, or related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience with at least one-year in field construction (30 college credits is considered equivalent to one year of experience).
- Must have or the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire a provisional license as a Standard Inspector in the applicable Plumbing trade.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Standard Inspector license in the Plumbing trade within 12 months of hire or prior to the expiration of the provisional license not to exceed 24 months from date of hire.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- TIER II
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing plans reviews and/or inspections. Must have Standard Inspector License in the Plumbing trade AND one of the following licenses or certifications:
Building Inspector;
Mechanical Commercial Inspector;
Electrical Commercial Inspector;
Residential Inspector; or Plans Examiner License. - Licenses listed above must be issued by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
- Other Certifications include:
Damage Assessment Certification (from ICC), Fire Safety Inspector I (from the Division of State Fire Marshal). - Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Qualification:
Multiple licensure's issued by DBPR are preferred in various trades. - Subject to Passing Substance Screening:
This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
- Pay: Plumbing Inspector Tier I - $25.25 - $28.50
- Pay: Plumbing Inspector Tier II - $28.50 - $32.02
