Overview
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES Highly responsible professional position working directly for the County Administrator/Assistant County Administrator to serve as an advocate of the Board of County Commissioners (the “Board”) to effectively communicate policies, procedures, and programs of the Board. Dissemination of public information through appropriate communication forums, conveying accurate information to the public about the Board is required. Additionally, independently conducting, coordinating, researching, analyzing, and reporting on special projects is required.
This position is responsible for agenda coordination, public records request/records management, public notices, and website management.
- Prepares the agenda for Board meetings and workshops from the preliminary stage to final publication. Responsible for receiving and reviewing agenda requests and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness, and placement on the agenda. Coordinates with department staff on agenda related requests. This position provides oversight and additional review of all agenda items prior to final approval by the County Administrator.
- Facilitates and attends all meetings and workshops of the Board, including meeting setup, broadcasting, and presenters/citizens to be heard. Coordinates the execution, recording, archiving, and dissemination of the official actions of the Board.
- Serves as the custodian of public records and records management. Processes public records requests in accordance with Administrative Regulation AR12.02. Facilitates Administrative Regulation 12.03 relating to the policies, procedures, and guidelines for the retention, storage, and disposal of all BOCC records.
- Maintains the County website; develops press releases for the media; develops content for County social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and any other appropriate social media site as a way to effectively provide public information about the County and its offices and events.
- Builds and maintains a positive relationship with the public, civic organizations, municipalities, and elected officials; serves as Board’s liaison at various board and committee meetings, as needed.
- Communicates with staff, the public, and elected officials the policies, procedures, and programs of the Board, including laws and regulations.
- Provides staff support to the County Administrator/Assistant County Administrator and assists in the creation and evaluation of reports.
- Drafts correspondence, agenda requests, reports and other documents.
- Performs administrative duties as needed, including answering phones, operation of the front counter and customer service to the citizens, civic organizations, and elected officials of Wakulla County.
- Responsible for special projects assigned by the County Administrator/Assistant County Administrator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, public administration, government or related field and two (2) years of related professional work experience required. Additional qualifying education, training, and/or work experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
