Minimum Starting Salary: $1,458.23 Bi-Weekly (In accordance with current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever is higher).

Description

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking an Accountant II for the Cost of Care unit. This work involves audit, review, and analysis of Cost of Care accounts, reviewing data for accuracy, preparing documents for adjustment submissions, responding to emails retrieved from the COC mailbox, and other special duties and projects as needed. The position is responsible for checking the accuracy of transactions posted to the account.

Some positions may also involve cross‑training and training of employees.

Examples of Work
  • Daily keying of adjustments and refunds for Cost of Care accounts prepared by Accountants, checking, reviewing, and validating the accuracy before entry into the accounting system.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of adjustments and refunds keyed for additional verification of accuracy in clients’ accounts.
  • Complete preparation of packets to be scanned in Axiom and verify accuracy.
  • Assist with return mail and address updates as needed.
  • Resolve inquiries and questions from customers regarding their Cost of Care invoices by phone and email.
  • Assist with pickup and distribution of incoming mail in the Cost of Care Unit.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of State of Florida accounting policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of audit procedures.
  • Knowledge of reconciliation process.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with internal and external customers, verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in auditing, reviewing, reconciling, or analyzing data for compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining a variety of accurate and complete accounting reports.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage completing deadlines.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Ability to use sound judgment to identify problems, generate and evaluate alternative solutions, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work well independently yet cohesively within the section to maintain internal control measures.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with customer service, audit and cost of care experience.
