Overview
The City of Tallahassee is seeking qualified applicants to fill either an Accountant or Senior Accountant position within the Financial Services Department. Applicants will be considered for the level that aligns with their education, experience and professional certifications.
These positions are part of the City’s core accounting and financial reporting team, responsible for maintaining the organization’s financial records in accordance with governmental accounting standards, playing a vital part in maintaining the City’s strong financial foundation. The successful candidates for these roles will be responsible for citywide governmental fund accounting, financial reporting and statement preparation, regulatory compliance and external audit coordination.
Responsibilities- Perform complex governmental and fund accounting work in alignment with GAAP and GAAFR standards.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations and financial statements with a high degree of accuracy.
- Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies and apply appropriate corrective action.
- Support accounting system operations, including modules, integrations and financial applications.
- Assist with internal/external audits, monthly and quarterly reporting, regulatory submissions and compliance documentation.
- Help support grants and project accounting by reviewing transactions, monitoring revenues and preparing required schedules.
- Work independently on assigned projects, with work reviewed through audits, reporting outcomes and internal checks.

Senior Accountant: 7+ Years
Salary Range$21.66 to $68.25/hourly, depending on experience and qualifications
Qualifications Accountant- Bachelor’s in accounting, finance or related field
- 4+ years of professional accounting, grant administration, budgeting or finance experience
- A master’s degree or CPA, CGFM or CPFO certification may substitute for required experience
- Bachelor’s in accounting, finance or related field
- 7+ years of professional accounting, grant administration, budgeting or finance experience
- A master’s degree or CPA, CGFM or CPFO certification may substitute for required experience
