Senior Cost Accountant

Soni Resources is partnering with a client near Florham Park, NJ, in the search for a Senior Cost Accountant.

This position will lead cost accounting across a growing, multi-entity manufacturing organization. You’ll ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and actionable insights that drive operational performance and margins, while partnering closely with operations, engineering, and supply chain teams. This role reports directly to the CFO and provides visibility into key financial decisions.

Responsibilities:

• Product & Cost Management: Lead and refine standard costing, maintain BOMs, labor/machine rates, and overhead allocations. Evaluate cost impacts from materials, processes, and operational changes.
• Expense & Performance Analysis: Monitor and examine variances (PPV, labor, overhead), identify root causes, and deliver actionable insights to leadership and operations.
• Inventory Oversight & Accounting: Manage valuation of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods. Support cycle counts, reconciliations, and inventory reserves, providing cost insights to guide pricing and operational decisions.
• Month-End Reporting & Controls: Support month-end close, journal entries, and reconciliations. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strengthen internal controls for cost and inventory processes.
• Systems & Process Optimization: Serve as ERP (Plex) expert, enhance reporting accuracy, standardization, and automation. Participate in finance initiatives to improve operational efficiency and profitability.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred
• 5+ years manufacturing cost accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of standard costing, BOMs, labor/overhead rates, variance analysis, and inventory accounting
• ERP experience (Plex preferred) and advanced Excel skills
• Proven ability to collaborate across operations, engineering, and supply chain
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment

Compensation: $115,000 - $130,000

Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
