Overview

The Interpretive Assistant assists in the implementation of education programs, workshops and activities for all ages.

Responsibilities
  • Greets groups and the general public visiting the Environmental Discovery Center (EDC); disseminates information about park facilities and local areas of interest to park visitors.
  • Assists visitors with park reservations for overnight accommodations, canoes and kayaks, rental facilities, etc.
  • Responsible for handling, feeding, and general care and maintenance of the EDC’s live animal collection and displays.
  • Collects and accounts for daily revenue. Accurately completes and submits all required receipts and reports.
  • Properly secures the building upon opening and closing.
  • Works as needed on holidays, weekdays, weekends and/or evenings.
Non-Essential Functions
  • Trains in the field of environmental education by utilizing resources and opportunities as they arise to keep abreast of current developments in the field.
  • Represents the Environmental Discovery Center and Lynches River County Park at community festivals and events.
  • Performs light housekeeping activities to ensure the attractiveness, cleanliness and safety of the EDC; assists with program set-up and clean-up.
Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience
  • Requires, at minimum, of a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience in the field of Environmental Education/Interpretation desired.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs and computer operations.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license. Must possess, or be able to obtain, First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.

  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, carry, move and lift 30 lb. objects regularly.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must have the ability to travel up to 5%.
