Description

The Director of Institutional Research is responsible for developing and directing research activities and evaluation efforts of Florence-Darlington Technical College, including data management and analysis, research, and assessment functions; working with academic and student services division, faculty and administration in research, analysis, reporting, and interpretation of data; and serving as the primary source for data information, as well as providing expertise in analysis and reporting.

Oversee the creation, development, collection, organization, interpretation, distribution, and evaluation of data, information, and reports useful for effectively assessing student learning outcomes, policy and planning formulation, and decision-making.

Job Functions
  • Research and provide data as requested. Directs collection and reporting of enrollment, programming, and management of data for internal and external use. Reports include IPEDS fall, winter, and spring collections and program evaluation. Manages the review and correction of the College’s database for use in performance funding, IPEDS, and other statistical reviews. Reports include, but not limited to, CERS graduate file and CERS Error corrections.

    Complies, collects, organizes, enters, computes, analyses, interprets, and verifies accuracy and completeness of data used to include: generating reports, charts, graphs; providing recommendations, information and/or data for decision-making, and planning.
  • Serve as the institution’s source for most official statistics and information. Serve as internal consultant in the design, access, implementation, analysis and interpretation of studies and assessment of student learning outcomes that contribute toward strengthening FDTC. Develop mechanisms to ensure that all current and historical assessment information is clear, accurate and accessible. Sample student information and assessment system database to ensure accuracy of data;

    take appropriate action to resolve data integrity problems. Review computer programs, troubleshoot, fix or obtain specific fixes. Direct or participate in institution-wide assessment of student learning outcomes and institutional research activities.
  • Conduct studies for enrollment forecasting, faculty workload, instructional activity, credit hours, retention, grading, student characteristics, graduates, site information, staffing patterns, budget forecasting, resource allocation, tuition, demographic information, program markets, student learning, and other studies which help the college community better understand our students and key changes which may indicate trends. Serves as the IPEDS keyholder and manages process to provide data to other government agencies as required by law.

    Prepare statistical reports as requested by FDTC, federal and state agencies, SCTCS, and professional organizations. Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, procedures, and other written materials.
  • Provide assistance to faculty, administrators and others including: refining research objectives, evaluation, and assessment designs; constructing datasets and merging data from a variety of sources; determining and executing appropriate statistical and qualitative analyses; and summarizing and reporting on findings. Update and produce the annual statistical and assessment report that summarizes pertinent information about courses, programs and the College. Develop and reformulate a cohort tracking and transfer information system for internal, state and federal reporting.

    Prepare program review statements for changes in programs.
Typical Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
:

Bachelor's degree and professional experience as a planner, researcher, or statistician.

Preferred Requirements
:

A master's degree with 3 or more years' of experience as a planner, researcher, or statistician. Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; experience with the accreditation process and using query databases. Familiarity with principles of data mining is a plus.
