MUSC Health is seeking an experienced Director of Emergency Services to lead emergency department operations across three hospital‑based EDs. This is a key leadership role for a fast‑growing regional system with strong physician engagement, rising patient satisfaction, and expanding community demand.
The Director will oversee ED nurse managers, partner closely with the physician medical director team, and drive performance across quality, experience, and operational outcomes.
About the EDs You’ll Lead- Florence:
Regional ED with strong throughput performance and significant year‑over‑year growth. - Black River: A top‑performing rural ED with rapid volume increases and strong clinical engagement.
- Marion: A stable, community‑based ED with consistent daily volumes.
- All sites maintain very low LWOTS rates, strong teamwork, and weekly interdisciplinary improvement huddles.
- Lead and develop ED nurse managers and clinical staff across all sites.
- Build and strengthen relationships with ED physicians, hospital leadership, and ancillary departments.
- Drive improvements in patient flow, throughput, patient experience, and key operational metrics.
- Oversee readiness for all regulatory standards; MUSC maintains DNV accreditation.
- Manage budgets, staffing, and operational performance.
- Maintain consistent visibility across all EDs; each site is located within a short drive of Florence.
- Support teams during periods of high census, including seasonal respiratory surges.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required;
Master’s preferred. - Active RN license (SC or Compact).
- Significant leadership experience in Emergency Services with oversight of a complex or high‑volume ED.
- Strong understanding of operational performance, ED metrics, and patient flow.
- Ability to build trust quickly and lead collaboratively across physicians, nursing teams, and hospital leaders.
- Experience with DNV standards preferred.
- Trauma experience helpful as the region advances toward a higher trauma designation.
MUSC’s Pee Dee Region continues to grow in volume, reputation, and market presence. The system is investing in expanded access through a new freestanding ED, further strengthening the importance of this leadership role.
