Under limited supervision, is responsible for providing therapeutic nutrition services for clients with high risk and/or complex nutrition-related medical conditions. Develop nutrition care plans for high-risk patient referrals and approve special and metabolic formulas. Participate in quality assurance processes for nutrition services.
Responsibilities- Nutrition Care:
Assess and diagnose the nutritional status of clients with high risk and/or complex nutrition-related medical conditions referred from WIC, MCH programs, as well as other health care providers. Develop and implement nutrition interventions including counseling, follow-up, referral, and coordination of care with other health care providers. Provide and document care utilizing the Nutrition Care Process and according to program policy. - Food Packages and Special Formulas:
Approve, document, distribute and track special and metabolic formulas per program policy and procedures. Order special and metabolic formulas for drop shipment to clinics. Provide consultation and technical assistance related to special formulas to staff and health care providers. Enter, update, and issue food benefits for high-risk clients and clients receiving special formulas. - Consultation, Technical Assistance and Outreach:
Provide professional expertise, consultation and technical expertise and assistance to health care team members, health care providers, community organizations, staff, and the public. Participate in the orientation, and training of nutrition staff as requested. Serve as a preceptor for dietetic interns completing supervised professional practice experiences in the region. - Quality Assurance:
Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of WIC/ MCH nutrition services. Assist with quality assurance processes for WIC program nutrition services, i.e., RD high risk documentation, WIC certifications, nutrition education, and special formulas. - Professional Development and Training:
Update professional skills and knowledge to assure delivery of quality nutrition services. Participate in continuing education opportunities. Complete and maintain advance certification(s) required for the position. Participates in Disaster Preparedness and Response as indicated. Maintains adequate training for Disaster Response Role. Performs other duties as assigned.
State
Minimum Requirements:
Some positions require registration or eligibility for registration by the American Dietetics Association. A master’s degree and registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian or registration eligible. Or a bachelor’s degree with professional clinical or public health experience and registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian.
Institutions of Higher Learning: must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Additional Requirements:
At least two (2) years of professional work experience in a clinical, public health, or community may be substituted for the master's degree. Nutrition experience in a clinical, public health or community setting is accepted. An active license to practice from the SC Panel for Dietetics or eligibility to apply for a license is required.
