Job Description Summary

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.

The Senior Manager is responsible for participating in long‑range strategic planning and short‑range implementation to ensure the Ambulatory clinics are managed in a consistent manner that embraces patient‑centered service, service excellence standards and utilizes efficient operational processes.

Key Responsibilities

Senior manager for one or more functional areas of a department or business unit. Manages two or more professional and support staff including subordinate managers. More discretion and greater financial authority than lower management levels.

Manages and leads the analysis, planning, implementation, and expenditures and budget tracking of major operational projects or initiatives. Provides recommendations to the leaders throughout the organization.

Manages initiatives, strategic priorities and programs which have an impact on the organization. Works independently and in collaboration with leadership to support the budget process and meeting key operational goals.

Plans, organizes, facilitates, monitors, and evaluates activities and functions of the department/functional business area based on employee/organizational goals. Collaborates with leaders to establish operating procedures, enhance clinical and non‑clinical workflows, increase productivity, and improve overall quality outcomes and operational efficiencies within a variety of delivery settings.

Provides operational oversight to leaders for Ambulatory, and is a key collaborator with the relevant departments and a thought leader in ambulatory quality and safety, coordination of care across the continuum, use of technological tools and solutions, metrics reporting, customer service, and process improvement.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a clinical field, health care management, business administration or a related degree (or equivalent experience) required.
  • Master’s degree in healthcare related field such as Nursing, Healthcare Administration or MBA is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of management work experience in ambulatory care leadership role or appropriate clinical area required; demonstrated ability to work effectively with physician leaders; talent in the selection and mentoring of a high‑quality, effective team; proven ability to lead change, organize teams, and delegate responsibility appropriately; proven ability to use data to drive performance improvement; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent

    Work Experience:

    8 years progressive work experience and 3 years management experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing and sitting; walking, climbing stairs, working from elevated areas, confined/cramped spaces, kneeling positions, bending and twisting at the waist, squatting, reaching overhead, repetitive hand/wrist/elbow/shoulder motions, lower extremity balance and coordination.
  • Maximum lift of 50 lbs. unassisted; lift from floor to 36 inches, 36 to overhead, 25 lbs. up to 25 lbs. overhead; lifting force requirements for various patient scenarios.
  • Maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or both; see and recognize objects at hand or distance; discriminate colors; determine distance/relationship; depth perception; maintain hearing acuity with correction.
  • May work rotating shifts, overtime, latex safe environment, respirator qualified.
