Job Purpose:
The Grants Accountant is responsible for overseeing the financial management of grants awarded to the College, including financial aid. This role is vital for ensuring efficient use of funds in compliance with grant guidelines and accurate financial reporting. The accountant collaborates with various departments, grantors, auditors, and project managers to uphold financial transparency and regulatory compliance.

Job Functions:

  • Prepare and analyze budgets for all College's federal, state and private grants according to award specifications. Collaborate with the Grants Director. Request reimbursement for all grants, within the timeline requested.
  • Interpret fiscal compliance policies and advise grant directors on budgets, fiscal compliance and reporting. Prepare and maintain comprehensive financial records for each grant, including budgets, expenditures, and revenue. Provide a monthly expenditure report by grant to the VP of Finance and Administration and Grants Director. Prepare general ledger entries for grant postings.
  • Approve all purchase requisitions for expenditures of the grants following the SC Procurement Code guidelines. Prepare all necessary documents to submit to the grantors for expenditure reimbursements to the College. Collaborate with the Purchasing Manager and Grants Project Director to ensure adherence to regulations and compliance with the SC Procurement Code.
  • Facilitate the financial closeouts of grants, ensuring all final financial records, reconciliations, audits, and documentation are completed on schedule. Collaborate with external auditors to ensure adherence to guidelines and compliance. Complete the Schedule of Federal Expenditures for the annual audit report.
  • Request reimbursement for all financial aid funding, including state and federal. Collaborate with the Financial Aid Director and Corporate Workforce Development.
  • Maintain bank accounts and wire transfers. Transfer funds to the various bank accounts and balance. Perform monthly reconciliations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance to support the college's values and priorities.

  • Minimum Requirements
    :
    A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, public administration or related field and professional experience directly related, such as accounting, auditing, finance or grants accounting.


    FDTC'S Preferred requirements
    :
    The minimum as listed plus three (3) years of directly related accounting and/or grant accounting experience. Experience with Ellucian Colleague or similar financial management systems. Knowledge of the principles, practices, theories and terminology of accounting, budgeting, auditing, financial management or grants accounting. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations governing grants. Knowledge of state governmental fiscal and budgetary processes. Knowledge of the South Carolina Procurement Code for Government and Public Entities.

    Knowledge of financial management systems and tools, including MS Excel. Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data and reports. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively.

    Must have a valid drivers license. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to sit for long periods of time.
