Position: Teaching Assistant (25-50)

Francis Marion University and the Gail & Terry Richardson Center for the Child invite applications for a Teaching Assistant to serve as a floater and assist where needed.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assists the Lead Teacher in planning both long and short-range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.
  • Manages the classroom routine in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
  • Assists the Lead Teacher in meeting the emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child.
  • Assists the Lead Teacher in arranging a classroom environment in accordance with program goals and philosophy.
  • Assists the Lead Teacher in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Assists the Lead Teacher in maintaining anecdotal records.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Completes professional development activities in early childhood education through in-service training and/or college level courses.
  • Maintains all applicable licensing regulations.
  • Maintains certification in Infant/Child First Aid and CPR.
  • All other duties assigned by the director.
Educational Requirements:

A high school diploma required. An Early Childhood Credential or Two-Year Degree as a Child Development Associate (CDA) is preferred. Experience in education, child care or general administration in working with Infants, Toddlers, Two, Three and Four-Year Old children preferred.

NOTE:

THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE STATE GRIEVANCE POLICY.

The position will depend upon the needs of the Center but is expected that the need for this position will be continuous. The only benefit available is participation in the State retirement system.

Hourly Rate:

$15.00/hour

Hours may vary (based on need), but approximately 25 hours/week.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the ability to bend, twist, squat, kneel, climb, reach above shoulder, grip/grasp, extend/flex neck, use right hand, use left hand, ability to see, lift up to 40 lbs., stand, walk, sit, drive, perform repetitive hand motions, and the ability to hear.

  • Three letters of reference with addresses, with both personal and work telephone numbers.
  • Copy of SC Driver’s License.
  • Copy of High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate of Completion.
  • Copy of Diploma for CDA or Early Childhood Credential, if applicable.
  • Copy of transcript from institution granting the Early Childhood Credential or two-year degree (official transcript will be required of the successful candidate).
