Position SummaryThe Engineering Manager owns the site’s capital project portfolio and asset reliability strategy to ensure safe, compliant, and cost‑effective operations. This role leads a multidisciplinary team (project engineers, reliability engineers, planners) to deliver engineering solutions, improve equipment reliability, and support Process Safety Management (PSM) and Mechanical Integrity (MI). The Manager partners with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Quality, and Supply Chain to optimize throughput, reduce losses, and extend asset life while meeting business objectives.
To be successful in the role, the Engineering Manager needs to be committed to employee development, results‑driven, safety‑focused, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working in a fast paced, process‑driven environment. Located at our Florence, Kentucky site, this role reports to the Plant Manager.
- Develop and execute a multi‑year engineering and reliability roadmap aligned to site strategy (safety, quality, delivery, cost, sustainability).
- Establish standards for design basis, specification control, MOC, PSSR, and documentation (as‑builts, P&IDs, datasheets).
- Lead the Engineering & Reliability Council (tiered reviews, KPIs, risk register) and ensure effective cross‑functional alignment.
- Own the capital portfolio: business cases, AFE/ROI, scope development, cost/schedule control, risk management, and change control.
- Oversee project execution from FEL through commissioning/startup; ensure constructability, EH&S by design, and maintainability.
- Standardize equipment and technologies to reduce complexity and lifecycle costs; maintain engineering specifications and standards.
- Manage external EPCs, OEMs, and contractors with clear technical, safety, and performance expectations.
- Implement Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM), FMEA, and criticality analysis to define optimal PM/PdM strategies.
- Deploy predictive technologies (vibration, thermography, ultrasound, oil analysis, motor testing, condition monitoring/Online CBM).
- Lead root‑cause analysis (RCA/5‑Why/Fishbone/8D) for chronic losses; convert findings into engineered solutions and sustainable standards.
- Improve MTBF, MTTR, OEE, uptime, and cost per asset; eliminate recurring failures and bad actors.
- Own engineering and reliability aspects of PSM/RMP: MI program, inspection/test plans, relief device program, instrumentation integrity, SIS/SIF lifecycle activities in partnership with Controls/PSM.
- Ensure MOC, PSSR, PHAs/HAZOP action closure, and documentation traceability; steward risk registers and safeguards.
- Partner with EHS to ensure projects and modifications meet OSHA, NFPA, NEC, API, ASME, ANSI/ISA and local code requirements.
- Partner with Maintenance to optimize planning/scheduling, job plans, and kitting; ensure CMMS/EAM data integrity (asset hierarchy, BOMs, failure codes).
- Convert reliability strategies into executable PM/PdM tasks with effectiveness reviews and interval optimization.
- Lead major turnarounds/outages: scope freeze, critical path control, contractor safety, and flawless startup readiness.
