Detention Officer (Hourly wage $31.02/hour and $2,000 SIGN‑ON BONUS)

Job Description

The Detention Officer ensures the safety and security of detainees in custody, acting in accordance with the highest ethical standards and maintaining fairness and integrity. Assigned to unarmed posts inside the Florence Service Processing Center, the officer supervises and moves detainees within the secure perimeter.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct a security and sanitation check of the area before taking over from the outgoing officer.
  • Inventory all equipment and record the results in the logbook.
  • Receive authorized equipment and ensure it is in proper working condition.
  • Maintain the communication radio in good working order with a fully charged battery.
  • Perform duties related to the detention, processing, safeguarding, security, and escort of detainees.
  • Exercise surveillance and control over detainees, maintaining order and discipline.
  • Attend to housing, feeding, and the physical well‑being of detainees 24 hours a day.
  • Make official entries in post logbooks that are legible and complete.
  • Enforce rules and regulations of the detention facility.
  • Provide care, custody and control of detainees.
  • Remove detainees from holding areas using proper restraints and security measures.
  • Guard detainees at deportation or exclusion hearings, during transport, while receiving medical care, and during other assigned duties.
  • Carry out all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Follow company-wide safety policies and adhere to the Officer Handbook and other safety policies.
  • Successfully complete all assigned training, including defensive tactics, and maintain required physical stamina.
Qualifications
  • US citizenship.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of 1 year of security, law enforcement or military experience preferred.
  • Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record).
  • Obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance.
  • Pass all pre-employment and random drug tests.
  • Pass a medical examination and meet health requirements.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a state security guard license.
  • Ability to walk through all areas of the facility for tours and compliance inspections in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend and reach for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
  • Ability to work without restrictions and limitations.
  • Ability to greet and deal tactfully and professionally with the general public.
  • Capability of following and interpreting written and verbal orders, policies and regulations.
  • Ability to compose written and oral reports.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, with courage, alertness, an even temperament, and deliver satisfactory performance.
  • Maintain poise and self‑control during emergencies involving mental and physical stress.
  • Maintain current/physical residency in the continental United States.
  • Maintain physical fitness standards, including ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform other required tasks.
