Job Summary

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) invites you to apply for the position of Physical Plant Supervisor I. As a Physical Plant Supervisor I you will be routinely involved in general facility maintenance and construction, and will be responsible for planning and directing the work of inmate crews, reading blueprints, performing material take‑offs, cost estimating, and writing bid specifications at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Eyman.

Job Duties
  • Supervise, plan, and direct the activities of subordinates and/or inmate crews.
  • Establish and carry out preventative maintenance schedules on all equipment, mechanical equipment, and facility maintenance activities.
  • Calculate cost estimates for maintenance/construction projects while working within budget constraints.
  • Maintain records on all equipment/tools, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance and construction duties on all facility buildings and/or equipment.
  • Complete related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor using basic office equipment/computer.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required.
  • Drive on State business.
  • Perform other duties appropriate to the assignment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of:

    • Budgetary issues, including estimating costs and ordering materials.

    • Basic computer skills, Excel and MS Word to create forms, charts, and conduct research.

    • National and local building codes.

    • Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codes.

    • All trades (electrical, electronic, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general building maintenance, and preventative maintenance).

    • Supervisory principles and techniques, including employee relations and work scheduling.
  • Skills in:

    • Written and verbal communication.

    • Organization and scheduling of maintenance repairs.

    • Establishing a Preventative Maintenance Program for the facility.

    • Supervisory skills including interpersonal skills, employee relations, and time management.

    • Communicating effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Abilities to:

    • Demonstrate use of common and specialized tools, equipment, and materials.

    • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and schematics.

    • Demonstrate methods and practices of preventative maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction.

    • Work in a prison environment.
Selective Preference(s)

Prefer one (1) year of experience equivalent to a Building Maintenance Specialist, or two (2) years equivalent to a Building Maintenance Technician III, or any combination of training and experience.

Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Employment is contingent on passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.
  • All employees must take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during New Employee Orientation and each year thereafter.
  • If the position requires driving, a valid class‑appropriate driver’s license, completion of all required training, and a current, unexpired, non‑revoked or non‑suspended license are required.
  • All newly hired State employees must complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
