The Substance Use Counselor is responsible and accountable for the delivery of contracted substance use disorder services in the facilities within the Navajo County Detention Center. Primary duties include the screening and assessment of substance use disorders, assessment of appropriateness for residential treatment and implementation/oversight of a residential substance use program. The Substance Use Counselor will also work with designated Navajo County Reentry Staff to assist in coordination of aftercare services in the community.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES- Screening
- Consent for participation
- Medical clearance
- Lab work and drug screening
- Inmate‑Patient readiness assessment
- Group therapy
- Individual therapy, as needed
- Personal or self‑help study
- Coordination of community referrals for coordination of care in concert with designated Navajo County Reentry Staff
- LICENSING: Currently licensed as Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC), Licensed Associate Substance Abuse Counselor (LASAC), or Licensed Substance Abuse Technician (LSAT). LISAC preferred.
- CERTIFICATION: Current CPR certification.
- EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field.
- PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two (2) years addictions treatment counseling preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year correctional experience preferred.
