BasicJob Functions
Responsible for assigned aspects of the maintenance and operation of utility scale PV power plant. Duties include monitoring PV plant operation through SCADA, commissioning, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying AC and DC solar PV systems, including inverters, PV module arrays, transformers, switch gear, and metering systems.
Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring junior technicians are trained and competent under the defined technician competency level outlined in the Nova Source Technician Qualification Standards program. This role focuses on developing technicians’ skills in electrical troubleshooting, substations operations, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety standards.
The trainer will conduct on-the-job coaching, and qualification based training, ensuring that trainees can safely diagnose, repair, and maintain Utility Solar Systems, including PLCs, motors, BESS, switch gear, and control panels.
This field-based position may require travel to different job sites in area to ensure technicians are assessed and deemed qualified within the area based on site-specific equipment and maintenance needs.
Experience- A minimum of 4 years of experience in Utility Solar Operations & Maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop team members through technical acumen.
- Experience in operating and maintaining power plant electrical systems, SCADA and controls systems operation, troubleshooting advanced electrical components, and using procedures to perform equipment preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Electrical certifications, state, journeyman, etc.
- College or technical degree preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Equivalent training in military, utility, or power industry a plus.
- Bending, kneeling, twisting, the ability to lift up to 70 pounds, the ability to climb ladders, and wear PPE for extended periods of time. Ability to work in high and low temperatures, sun exposure, and navigate on uneven ground on foot.
- Demonstrated knowledge in electrical safety and arc flash standards.
- Ability to use training materials, OEM manuals, and OJT performance evaluations in the field.
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to follow operating, switching, maintenance, safety and environmental procedures.
- Must have a strong safety background with experience in Lockout Tag Out and Job Hazard Analysis.
- Working knowledge of industrial or power facility operation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
- Proficiency reading and understanding Electrical schematics and prints.
- Proficient at medium & high voltage switching.
- Experience testing and troubleshooting medium voltage and high voltage equipment, including transformers, potential transformers, current transformers, breakers, relays, contractors, motors and inverters.
- Capable of retrieving relay files and documentation.
- Fully fluent in utilizing a CMMS system for maintenance tracking.
- Proven computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Office Products) is required.
