Summary

As a secondary English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher covering grades 6 to 12 in the Florence Unified School District, you will play a crucial role in guiding students through the world of literature, critical analysis, and effective communication. Your responsibilities will include designing engaging and challenging lessons, fostering a love for reading and writing, and preparing students for college and career readiness.

Your role contributes to the overarching mission of delivering exceptional education by nurturing students' literary and communicative skills.

Essential Functions

* Successful implementation of the district ELA curriculum and state standards according to the students' grade level

* Guide students in analyzing and interpreting literature, exploring themes, characters, symbolism, and cultural context.

* Teach effective writing techniques, grammar rules, research skills, and the art of persuasive communication.

* Encourage critical thinking, interpretation, and argumentation through discussions and literary response activities.

* Guide students in conducting research, evaluating sources, and integrating evidence effectively into their writing.

* Integrate technology tools and digital platforms to enhance learning experiences and foster digital literacy.

* Design assessments that measure students' comprehension, analysis, and writing skills. Provide timely and constructive feedback to support students' growth.

* Prepare students for college-level reading, writing, and communication skills that are essential for academic success and future careers.

* Maintain open lines of communication with parents and guardians, sharing insights into students' progress and achievements.

* Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay updated with ELA trends, teaching strategies, and curriculum enhancements.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. * Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related field; teaching certification is required. Master's Degree (MA) preferred.

* Proven experience in teaching high school ELA, with a deep understanding of literature, writing instruction, and critical analysis.

* Effective classroom management skills and the ability to create an engaging and intellectually stimulating learning environment.

* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

* Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card

* Valid Arizona Teaching certificate

Clearances

* Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination

* Valid I-9 form

* AZ Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Terms of Employment

* Salary commensurate with education and experience for this position

* 188 day new teacher contract - per work calendar for this position

* 186 returning teacher contract - per the work calendar for this position

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the site administration in accordance with Governing Board Policy.
