Position Overview:

As a High School Spanish Teacher, you will play a crucial role in empowering students to excel in Spanish language acquisition and cultural understanding.

Essential Functions

* Design and implement a dynamic and engaging curriculum aligned with AP Spanish Language and Culture standards.

* Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where students from various backgrounds feel valued, respected, and motivated to learn Spanish.

* Employ innovative teaching strategies and instructional techniques to enhance language proficiency, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

* Introduce students to the rich cultures of Spanish-speaking countries through literature, history, art, music, and current events, promoting cultural awareness and appreciation.

* Assess students' progress regularly through various formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to support their growth.

* Prepare students for the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam by offering rigorous instruction, practice exams, and test-taking strategies.

* Collaborate with colleagues to align teaching methodologies, share best practices, and contribute to a cohesive educational experience.

* Provide individualized support and guidance to students, including tutoring sessions and extra help, to ensure their success in learning Spanish.

* Communicate effectively with parents, keeping them informed about their child's progress, and addressing any concerns or questions regarding the curriculum or student performance.

* Maintain open communication with parents and guardians, sharing insights into students' progress and achievements in the course.

* Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay informed about education trends, teaching strategies, and curriculum enhancements in the content area.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. * Bachelor's degree or higher in the core area content

* Master's Degree (M.A.) in Education. Or related field (preferred)

* Minimum of three (3) years previous teaching experience or school experience in teaching (preferred)

* Proficiency in both Spanish and English languages.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

* Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card

* Valid Arizona Teaching certificate in Spanish education.

Clearances:

* Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination

* Valid I-9 form

* AZ Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Terms of Employment:

* Salary schedule commensurate with education and experience for this position

* 188 day new teacher contract - per work calendar for this position

* 186 returning teacher contract - per the work calendar for this position

Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the site administration in accordance with Governing Board Policy.
