The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking an experienced Occupational Safety Consultant to lead occupational safety, fire prevention, and environmental health programs across our Eyman complex. In this vital role, you’ll conduct safety inspections, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and EPA standards. You’ll also provide hands‑on training to strengthen our culture of safety and operational excellence.

Job Duties:
  • Conduct scheduled inspections and safety tours in all staff, inmate, and visitor areas for safety and/or fire‑related concerns/issues.
  • Conduct and participate in training and Safety Committee meetings as needed or required.
  • Provide oversight of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management.
  • Conduct inspections as indicated, all site structures as indicated in a report, and work with the sites on detailed corrective actions recommended for code/standards compliance.
  • Conduct follow‑up inspection and report on corrective actions taken and completed.
  • Help site with compliance schedules.
  • Inspect and ensure fire alarm devices and fire suppression equipment are maintained in operating conditions, recording when such equipment was last inspected, tested, repaired, replaced, or is currently defective and not fully or partially functional.
  • Investigate all accidents/injuries involving staff, inmates, and visitors, write a report to site management and FLS Administrator recommending corrective action, detail any specific citations relating to any Fire Marshal, local jurisdictional fire department, OSHA, fire, EPA, or local jurisdictions.
  • Note corrective actions recommendations and how future incidents can be avoided.
  • Oversee and coordinate institutional compliance with environmental laws, rules, and regulations within the scope of the ADCRR Environmental Management System (EMS), and help maintain the environmental aspects matrix therein.
  • Work with responsible staff to identify environmental issues, coordinate, and ensure timely submission of required environmental submittals to the appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Work with the Safety and Loss Prevention Administrator to provide response to regulatory issues when they arise.
  • Maintain OSHA 501 General Industry certification, provide related training to affected staff, inmates, and contractors using OSHA General Industry 10, 30, and 40‑hour training courses based on a need for safety awareness in General Industry standards and application.
  • Use site‑specific toolbox or tailgate safety training as recommended in trade‑specific categories.
  • Maintain NFPA 10 certification to train, assign, and monitor fire extinguisher maintenance activities.
  • Conduct respirator fit testing of staff and inmates following medical and/or health care clearances within 10 days of notification that a medical clearance is complete.
  • Attend all Safety Committee meetings as a non‑voting member of the committee.
  • Serve as the committee's investigative arm and partner closely with the Occupational Health Unit on findings and recommendations.
  • Attend meetings as directed by FLS Administrator or as required.
