Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical Position Summary
Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department.
Responsibilities- Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
- Documents patient care and monitors patient condition, communicating with care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Coordinates patient care across disciplines, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and support needs.
- Provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, and circumstances.
- Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
- Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Patient Populations Served:
Neonate, Infant, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult.
Exposure:
Regular occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens and hazardous materials.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required;
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
License /
Certifications:
Current RN license in state of practice; BCLS required; ACLS, PALS, and Handle with Care preferred.
