• Use independent professional judgment, analytical skills, and the nursing process to provide a full range of delegated, interdependent, and independent nursing services to patients.
• Demonstrate clinical competence and compassion while applying the Seven Dimensions of Patient Care and Benner's Domains of Nursing Practice. Coordinate development of multidisciplinary plans of care, ensuring appropriate length of stay, resource use, and quality outcomes.
• Provide patient care that respects patient rights, dignity, values, culture, preferences, and expressed needs, including patient education and pain management.
• Collaborate with patients, families, staff, and community agencies to develop discharge plans that prepare patients for continued care.
• Perform risk assessments (fall, skin, VTE, aspiration), initiate preventive measures, and manage medication reconciliation.
• Document nursing interventions and patient progress, maintain care plans, and review discharge instructions for each patient.
• Administer therapeutic regimens safely and perform basic nursing procedures (dressing changes, catheterization, NG tube insertion, suctioning).
• Assist surgical and invasive procedures, operate nursing equipment, and troubleshoot devices.
• Monitor physiologic parameters, respond to changes in respiratory, neurologic, cardiac, and urinary status, and use SBAR or similar tools for communication.
• Lead in emergencies, including CPR, and conduct emergency equipment checks.
• Support families during crisis or grief, ensuring high quality of care and patient safety.
• Communicate with interdisciplinary teams, monitor length of stay, identify ethical issues, and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Support quality improvement activities, mentor student nurses, and contribute to a safe and respectful work environment.
• Adhere to standards of performance, include the four Ps for shift handoff, and promote continuous professional development.
• Maintain work conditions, including exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous substances.
• Acquire approximately 3 to 9 months of on-the-job experience to master unit and department policies and procedures.
• Approval of the most recently dated job description is considered the official job description.

• Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing within 60 days of hire or transfer date.
• Certified BLS Provider (Basic Life Support) credentialed from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire or transfer date. (Certified Instructor also acceptable.)
• Graduate of an approved professional RN nursing program.
