Job DescriptionThe Account Specialist is responsible for maximizing opportunities for the product portfolio in a single-layer geography. This individual will develop and maintain strategic business relationships with a wide spectrum of customers to include hospitals, IDN’s, academic institutions, outpatient accounts, long-term care facilities, government accounts, and specialty private practice. Business relationships focus on increasing patient access to portfolio products, consistent with approved labels, developing new business, expanding current business, maximizing resource utilization, and increasing sales to achieve geography sales goals through a solution-oriented and collaborative approach.
The role involves networking, client services, and a thorough understanding of institutional and medical practices.
- Advances hospital and specialty customers along the sales continuum and gains prescriber commitments through effective questioning, active listening, and utilization of approved data and resources.
- Delivers on-label presentations and sales calls to highlight benefits and risks of the product portfolio, create awareness, and address gaps, resulting in sales goal achievement.
- Develops professional relationships and differentiates the Anti-Infective portfolio’s value proposition at all levels (C‑Suite, physicians, hospital staff, support personnel) within accounts and departments to further usage.
- Applies a strong understanding of product and patient flow through specialty pharmacy, specialty distribution, and buy and bill channels, coordinating and mobilizing key stakeholders across multiple departments to align on patient-focused solutions.
- Works successfully in a complex, matrixed, account-based selling environment that requires collaboration and cross‑functional discipline.
- Partners with Abb Vie in‑field teams (MSLs, National Director of Accounts, Key Account Directors) and in‑house teams to identify, design, and adapt appropriate tactics.
- Creates, develops, executes, and monitors strategic geography business plans, determining appropriate focus and frequency per account to deliver on objectives.
- Sources, interprets, and utilizes key data by account to develop account profiles and relationship maps for all territory accounts, maximizing communication and call continuum.
- Attends and actively participates in local boards, societies, conventions, and other HCP meetings when appropriate, representing Abb Vie, building new relationships, and sharing information in a compliant on‑label manner.
- Completes all Abb Vie required training and maintains adherence to company policies, OEC/Legal procedures, and HCIR credentialing requirements, including background checks, drug screens, and proof of immunization.
- Collaborates across multiple departments within healthcare institutions and across organizations, building processes and compliant communication strategies with medical science liaisons.
This role is field‑based; candidates should live within a reasonable distance from the primary city. The geography covers the majority of Michigan including Grand Rapids, Flint, Lansing, Marquette, and Benton Harbor.
