The K–12 Literacy Coach provides job-embedded instructional coaching and leadership to strengthen literacy teaching and learning across the district. The coach models, co-teaches, and provides side-by-side support to enhance literacy lessons, intervention groups, and data-based decision making within a balanced and comprehensive assessment system. Responsibilities include facilitating bi-weekly PLCs, supporting Tier I and Tier II goal setting and progress monitoring, collaborating on IRIPs and MTSS processes, and maintaining curriculum documentation and shared data systems.

The Literacy Coach leads curriculum implementation, mapping, and review; develops scope and sequence and pacing guides; and provides professional learning aligned to the Danielson Framework and district initiatives. Additionally, the coach/interventionist works with academic interventionists to develop, monitor, and modify intervention plans as well as providing intervention to identified students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and facilitate instructional coaching cycles and consultation sessions, including classroom observation, data analysis, goal setting, action planning, modeling, co-teaching, side-by-side support, progress monitoring, and reflective feedback aligned to ELA standards, adopted curriculum resources, the Structured Literacy Framework, Science of Reading/Writing (Reading & Writing Rope), Essential Practices, and the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
  • Strengthen Tier I core instruction and Tier II interventions by supporting literacy lesson design, instructional strategies, intervention groups, WIN time planning, development and monitoring of literacy goals, adjustment of instructional plans, and implementation of a balanced, comprehensive assessment system grounded in data-based decision making.
  • Lead ELA curriculum implementation and review processes; develop and present curriculum reports to administrators and the Board of Education; support curriculum mapping in Atlas; create and maintain scope and sequence and pacing guides to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum; maintain and inventory ELA instructional resources annually.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly grade-level PLC meetings in collaboration with the Math Coach and Lead Intervention Teacher; develop and maintain a year-at-a-glance PLC calendar; collect, analyze, and triangulate Tier I district assessment data; maintain shared curriculum/data folders; and develop progress monitoring schedules with embedded PLC check-ins.
  • Collaborate and develop, align, and monitor Tier I and Tier II instructional plans, small group interventions, and Individual Reading Improvement Plans (IRIPs); communicate curriculum updates and provide ongoing instructional guidance to staff.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive professional learning plan with the administrator; facilitate ongoing professional development; train and calibrate staff on ELA curriculum assessments; onboard and support new staff; administer assessments as needed to model protocols; and guide teachers in using assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Actively participate in regular meetings with the principal and serve on School Improvement, District Improvement (MICIP), MTSS, Title I Planning, and Early Warning System teams; present Tier I/Tier II supports and assessment data to inform school wide decision making; provide expertise in literacy intervention strategies and resources.
  • Support school wide literacy initiatives and family engagement events, including Kindergarten Round Up, March is Reading Month, and Title I family events; assist with Title I literacy orders; manage ELA Tier I digital curriculum subscriptions and memberships; and complete required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth by participating in GISD ELA meetings and professional learning opportunities, and sharing research-based best practices with staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid teaching certificate.
  • Minimum of 5 years successful classroom teaching experience, preferably in ELA or elementary literacy.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the Science of Reading and Writing
    , Structured Literacy, and evidence-based literacy practices.
  • Strong knowledge of ELA standards, curriculum design, and balanced assessment systems.
  • Experience analyzing student achievement data and using data to inform instruction and intervention.
  • Experience supporting Tier I core instruction and Tier II interventions within an MTSS framework.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to model, co-teach, and provide constructive feedback to adult learners.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives, documentation, and timelines.
  • Familiarity with the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
