SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary: $52,361 - $92,683 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications

Benefits: Our comprehensive benefits package includes health insurance with five different plans, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, voluntary insurance options, and a supplemental life program. Employees are entitled to sick time, vacation time, bereavement days, holidays, and longevity pay. Flexible spending accounts (FSA) or healthcare savings accounts (HSA) are available based on the elected medical plan. Additionally, retirement savings plans are provided through the State of Michigan Office of Retirement Services (ORS).

These benefits are available after just one full day of employment.

ROLE AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The Consultant for Special Education Compliance and Technical Assistance serves in a consultive/supportive role with staff, students, parents, and representatives from local districts and community agencies. Responsible for coordination, development, and coaching within assigned areas.

Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
  • Participates as part of the General Supervision and Monitoring (GSM) team to support special education compliance and the delivery of services and specially designed instruction to students in the least restrictive environment.
  • Provides consultation to districts demonstrating noncompliance regarding policies, practices, and procedures for special education.
  • Provides professional development activities to school district personnel.
  • Serves on the GISD MTSS team and supports district teams in system development to implement Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
  • Guides LEA problem solving and implementation planning through a data based decision making process designed to use capacity, fidelity, and student outcome data.
  • Prepares reports to facilitate, document, or evaluate programs and assigned duties.
  • Consults, counsels, and collaborates with parents, school personnel, students, and appropriate community agencies regarding educational concerns.
  • Assist teachers in planning, sequencing, and scaffolding of instruction.
  • Models techniques for effective delivery of instruction in classrooms.
  • Assists in staff development activities related to assigned duties.
  • Remains up to date on current methodologies and strategies for instructional programs for students with disabilities.
  • Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
  • Other Duties:
  • May serve as a resource for the development of department budget and district plan goals related to the assigned area.
  • May serve as a resource person to local school district school improvement teams related to the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Represents the district on various community agencies and professional organizations as appropriate to the assigned area.
  • Performs other related duties in the department as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Master's degree required; valid Michigan teacher certificate with an endorsement in one or more areas of special education, licensed special education teacher meeting requirements for teacher consultant approval is required.

    Experience:

    Minimum of three years of satisfactory experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting is required.

    Skills/Other:

    Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral communication with administrators, staff, parents/guardians, and community agencies.
