Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate, NT endorsement or Michigan School Counselor license
- Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling is preferred and will be paid at MA+30 pay scale
- Teaching or counseling experience at the secondary level is preferred
- Experience with Student Information Systems
- Excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents and staff
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, advanced problem-solving approaches and a strong desire to promote student success
- Strong organizational skills
Description:
The KHS School Counselor will provide a comprehensive guidance/mentoring program to meet the needs for all students. Responsibilities include consultation with teachers, mentors, staff, and parents to provide support in the following areas:
- Support the social, emotional and academic needs of a caseload of approximately 350 students
- Perform credit audits, update transcripts to verify students have met the state and district graduation requirements
- Exercise the use of crisis intervention strategies
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions
- Provide academic support to all students and be involved with students who require accommodation provided through IEPs, 504s or other special needs
- Assist with end of the year activities related to graduation and honors convocation
- Assist with any state and building-wide assessments as required for student graduation
- Work with at-risk populations by identifying students early and providing appropriate support to student achievement
- Actively participates in a diverse learning community that embraces acceptance and supports students’ emotional and social growth
- Participate in all building/district professional development.
- Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs
- Other duties as assigned
