Counselor, Special Needs ​/ Learning Disabilities, Education ​/ Teaching

Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate, NT endorsement or Michigan School Counselor license
• Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling is preferred and will be paid at MA+30 pay scale
• Teaching or counseling experience at the secondary level is preferred
• Experience with Student Information Systems
• Excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents and staff
• Possess strong interpersonal skills, advanced problem-solving approaches and a strong desire to promote student success
• Strong organizational skills

Description:
The KHS School Counselor will provide a comprehensive guidance/mentoring program to meet the needs for all students. Responsibilities include consultation with teachers, mentors, staff, and parents to provide support in the following areas:

• Support the social, emotional and academic needs of a caseload of approximately 350 students
• Perform credit audits, update transcripts to verify students have met the state and district graduation requirements
• Exercise the use of crisis intervention strategies
• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions
• Provide academic support to all students and be involved with students who require accommodation provided through IEPs, 504s or other special needs
• Assist with end of the year activities related to graduation and honors convocation
• Assist with any state and building-wide assessments as required for student graduation
• Work with at-risk populations by identifying students early and providing appropriate support to student achievement
• Actively participates in a diverse learning community that embraces acceptance and supports students’ emotional and social growth
• Participate in all building/district professional development.
• Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs
• Other duties as assigned
