Overview

, you will actively support and uphold the City’s stated mission and values. You will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and service of the City’s fleet, which includes light-duty vehicles such as sedans, SUVs, and pickups, as well as heavy-duty equipment like refuse trucks, loaders, and specialized emergency service vehicles. You will help to conduct preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections to keep the fleet safe and operational.

Examples of the Work Performed (Illustrative Only)
- Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs varied automotive and heavy equipment such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, graders, sweepers, loaders, public safety and snow removal equipment.
- Utilizes proper procedures to inspect, maintain, and repair air conditioning systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs gasoline and diesel engine components.
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs hydraulic systems, air brake systems, fuel injection systems, and diagnostic on-board computer systems.
- Inspects, maintains and diagnoses issues with transmissions and differentials as required.
- Inspects and repairs hydraulic and air brake systems.
- Performs some MIG welding and oxy-acetylene torch fabrication and repairs.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections and completes lubrication and oil changes.
- Installs auxiliary equipment, batteries, tires, wiring, door glass, door handles, hydraulic components, and brakes.
- Maintains accurate records of repairs made, work orders, and time worked while updating supervisors.
- Works in the field and in the shop as assigned.
- Makes service calls for inoperable equipment and makes field repairs.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Two years of specialized or technical training beyond high school.
- Four years of experience as a professional mechanic including two years as a diesel and heavy equipment mechanic.
- Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.
- Trade school certificate relating to automotive mechanics and diesel mechanics.
- ASE Master Automotive/Master Truck Certification.
- EVT Certification and fire apparatus experience.
- Welding experience.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
- Must possess a Class 9 Commercial Driver s License (CDL) with Hazmat and Tanker endorsement within 3 months of employment. The City will pay for this license and endorsements.
- Must furnish own hand tools for this position.
- Incumbents of this position are subject to pre-employment drug screening, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol screening.
- Must have the ability to be contacted and to respond in a timely manner, and be willing and available for emergency work, as assigned.
- Must be willing and able to work 12-hour shifts during snow removal operations, including weekends and holidays, as assigned.
- Must be willing and able to work Saturdays and/or swing shifts as assigned.
- Must be willing and able to perform field service necessary to keep equipment operative during inclement weather including excessive cold, wind, or precipitation.
- All Emergency Service Employees shall maintain their principal residence within the state boundaries of Arizona. All Emergency Service Employees, except those holding a position in Fire, will arrive at the assigned or emergency work location within one (1) hour from notification to report…
