Overview

Northern Arizona Healthcare is hiring for Nurse Residents to join our nursing team at Flagstaff Medical Center. Positions start February 16 and April 13, 2026 for Adult Inpatient Units, OR, Pediatrics, Special Care Nursery, and Labor & Delivery. Info session details are available as described in the posting.

Responsibilities

The Nurse Resident provides and supervises direct and indirect total nursing care to identified age-specific groups. Utilizes the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) to achieve the goals of the nursing department. The Nurse Resident works under the direct supervision of a preceptor for all principal duties and responsibilities during the training program with eventual transition to independent practice after successful training.

Upon completion of the yearlong (12-month) nurse resident program the nurse resident will transition to the RN job description.

Nurse Resident – An employee who has just exited nursing school, is newly licensed, or an experienced RN new to the acute care setting.

  • Timely completion of module assignments as assigned by the residency coordinator
  • Ability to demonstrate high levels of professionalism in punctuality, avoidance of unexcused absences, respectful behavior, appropriate classroom etiquette, cohesive teamwork and strong communication skills
Highlights / Qualifications
  • Nurse Residents must be licensed prior to start date. It is strongly recommended that the applicant obtains the soonest possible NCLEX test date in the event retesting is necessary.
  • Nurse Residents will participate in New Colleague & RN Orientation, CERNER Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Training, Basic ECG Interpretation & ACLS certification.
  • NAH provides a hybrid & dynamic learning environment geared toward all types of learning styles. Methods include synchronous learning through lecture, hands-on skills, return demonstration, clinical application & asynchronous learning via online modules.
  • Education:

    Associate Degree in Nursing - Required
  • New hire RNs and those hired on or after 7/1/2016 - Must enroll in a BSN program within one year of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.
  • Certification & Licensures:
    Current, unrestricted RN license in the State of Arizona - Required; BLS - Required; ACLS training as part of the residency program.
Program Details

New Colleague & RN Orientation, CERNER EMR Training, Basic ECG Interpretation & ACLS certification. Hybrid & dynamic learning environment with synchronous, hands-on, and online modules. Weekly Learning Labs and a mix of classroom and online modules.

Call

Call may be required depending on the department. Computer literacy and comfort with electronic health records are expected.
