The Coconino County Superior Court is accepting applications for the position of Judge Pro Tempore (on-call/as-needed). The person selected for this position will be recommended for appointment by the Presiding Judge of Superior Court to the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court and to the Coconino County Board of Supervisors. This position is a limited-term appointment with no certain termination date.
Natureof Work
The powers and duties of a Judge Pro Tempore of the Superior Court are the same as provided for Superior Court judges in Title 12, Chapter 1, Article 2. The Superior Court has original and concurrent jurisdiction as conferred by the Constitution, and concurrent jurisdiction with justices of the peace of misdemeanors where the penalty does not exceed a fine of one thousand dollars or imprisonment for six months.
Superior Court judges preside over criminal, probate, juvenile, domestic relations, and civil cases.
The incumbent will be appointed as an exempt, at-will, limited-term employee of the Superior Court by the Chief Justice upon the recommendation of the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court. The Judge Pro Tempore will be subject to assignment in any court location in Coconino County as directed by the Presiding Judge of Superior Court. The appointment is made for not more than 12 months, at which time previously appointed at-will Judicial Officers, such as Pro Tems, Commissioners, and Hearing Officers, may be reappointed without competition but must go through the reappointment process.
Minimumand Special Qualifications
The person selected for this position shall be not less than thirty years of age, of good moral character, admitted to the practice of law in the State of Arizona for not less than five years next preceding the appointment, and a resident of the State of Arizona for not less than five years next preceding the appointment.
SalaryThe compensation rate for this part-time, on-call position is $86.53 per hour. Incumbents are not guaranteed a specific number of hours.
