Job Summary

May serve as the project lead technician, as needed under the general supervision of the Resident Engineer (RE) or concurrent Project Supervisor. The role monitors contract compliance regarding ADOT standard specifications, standard drawings, and project‑specific plans and special provisions. Responsibilities include assisting the project supervisor with the review of construction submittals, material certificates, and documentation; providing direction, coaching, and mentoring to lower‑level inspectors;

and aiding in scheduling, monitoring, and mentoring inspection staff. The technician also monitors, maintains, and operates testing and sampling equipment; reviews and disseminates all material test results—including asphalt, concrete, aggregate, and earthwork; and participates in sampling, testing, and inspection一年 on highway construction projects, hot mix asphalt plants, and concrete batch plants. The position requires maintaining Arizona Management System processes, providing road block/traffic control and winter weather assistance, and driving a State vehicle.

Job Duties

• Inspect minor contract items to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.

• Serve as a lead inspector for personnel assignment to projects, providing direction and guidance.

• Use a State vehicle in the course of job duties.

• Prepare filed documentation and verify field calculations for input into the FAST system.

• Inspect and approve traffic control and project safety items in compliance with standard specifications and policies.

• Perform complex analysis and calculations as required, including laboratory tests, quantities, and other contract‑related documentation.

• Review work performed by other personnel assigned to the area of assignment.

• Receive training as required and perform other duties as assigned related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of
  • Extensive knowledge in methods, procedures, and techniques used in highway construction project inspection, survey, materials testing, and documentation.
  • Knowledge of work management, analysis, and evaluation of a wide variety of technical engineering data, Federal, State statutes and agency standards, policies, and procedures applicable to the assignment.
  • Understanding of advanced mathematics and the operation and maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Familiarity with engineering‑related equipment and oral and written communication skills.
  • Understandinguvieron interpersonal relations, including contact with contractors, representatives, and other governmental agencies.
Skill in
  • Analyzing and evaluating a wide variety of engineering data.
  • Decision‑making, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments.

Selective Preference(s)

Experience operating survey equipment, inspecting minor highway construction projects, hot mix and concrete plants, or performing advanced engineering and construction records maintenance. A bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or a closely related profession may be substituted for the required experience.

Pre‑Employment Requirements

The position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function. Must possess a current, valid class‑appropriate driver’s license and the insurance and training required by state law. The following certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire:
