The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for the day administration, maintenance, and support of the organization’s IT systems, servers, cloud platforms, and core business applications. This role ensures system reliability, security, and performance while providing excellent technical support to internal users. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail oriented, and comfortable managing both on premises and cloud-based environments.
Key Responsibilities Systems Administration & Maintenance- Administer and maintain Windows servers, virtualized environments, and storage systems.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and security.
- Apply patches, updates, and configuration changes regularly.
- Maintain and monitor backup and disaster recovery systems.
- Create, modify, and deactivate user accounts, permissions, and security groups.
- Manage access across core systems, applications, and cloud services.
- Enforce identity, MFA, conditional access, and security best practices.
- Provide tier 2/3 support for network issues alongside the network team or MSP.
- Monitor security alerts, logs, and endpoint protection tools.
- Assist with maintaining firewalls, VPN access, and network segmentation.
- Support security audits, compliance requirements, and remediation activities.
- Provide advanced support for escalations from the help desk.
- Troubleshoot issues related to servers, M365, authentication, endpoints, and line of business applications.
- Document processes, solutions, and configuration standards.
- Assist with infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and technology rollouts.
- Improve systems through automation, scripting, or policy enhancements.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies to strengthen operational efficiency.
- 3–5+ years of experience in systems administration or similar IT role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra , Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and virtualization (Scale/Hyper V).
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Azure AD.
- Familiarity with endpoint management tools (Intune, GPO, or similar).
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs).
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
- Experience with backups (Veeam, Datto, or similar).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and security tools (EDR, SIEM, MFA, Conditional Access).
- Scripting experience (Power Shell preferred).
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+/Security+, Microsoft AZ 104, MS 102, or equivalent.
- Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Strong communication skills and customer service mindset.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Attention to detail with a focus on system stability and security.
- Full-time, on-site or hybrid depending on company policy.
- Participation in on call rotations or after-hours maintenance windows may be required.
- Occasional travel between office locations or data centers.
- Must be available during extended business hours as well as weekends on a rotating basis or as needed.
