Major Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver a prescribed course of radiation to patient. Check prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient‑identification prior to treatment. Explain procedure to patient as means of communication during treatment. Answer questions and reassure patient. Reinforce physician's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and to care. Prepare room and equipment for patient according to chart specifications for field size, distance, time, and the like.
  • Administer radiation therapy treatments observing radiation safety measures for patients and personnel. Transfer patient safety to treatment table, giving special care to catheters, I.V.'s, and the like.
  • Monitor patient and equipment during treatment. Maintain patient markings. Maintain simulation room. Assist Radiation (Oncologist) and Physicist in simulation of patients prior to radiation treatments. Observe patient for unusual reactions and report to supervisor or others. Assist in follow‑up and clinical examinations of patient.
  • Maintain departmental records. Update patient charts as required. Maintain records of daily treatment. Maintain separate files on all therapy patients. Schedule patient appointments.
  • Assist in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies. Maintain work area in clean, orderly and safe condition. Maintain equipment in good working order; make minor repairs as necessary. Report any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor or others. Initiate requisitions for supplies as needed.
  • Comply with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attend variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrate use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respect diverse views and approaches, demonstrate Standards of Respect, and contribute to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Maintain, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Position Qualifications

License/Certification/

Education:

Required:

  • Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy.
  • If not registered upon hire, the employee will have 1 year to obtain certification as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must possess a valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy.

Preferred:

  • Graduate of CAHEA-approved Radiation Therapy Technology Program.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skill.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work cooperatively with all members of the healthcare team.
