Job DescriptionFitchburg State University Upward Bound Math and Science Program is committed to empowering first‑generation and low‑income high‑school students. Our Summer Academy aims to strengthen students' academic skills, build confidence, ignite their curiosity, and inspire interest in STEM and other fields.
We are seeking enthusiastic and creative summer instructors to teach high‑school‑level courses using a project‑based learning (PBL) approach. Instructors will promote critical thinking, problem‑solving, and creativity in order to enhance and develop understanding in various content areas.
Responsibilities- Guide students through inquiry‑based projects from conception to completion.
- Develop and deliver interactive lessons on content‑area topics.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and program events as needed.
- Assess and evaluate student performance through project outcomes, team meetings, and reflective discussions.
- Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that accommodates diverse learning styles.
- Act as a mentor and positive role model for students, encouraging their academic and personal growth.
- Track and document student progress through pre‑ and post‑assessments.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, English, Science, or a related field in the content area required.
- MA DESE licensure (or equivalent).
- Teaching experience with high‑school students – PBL experience is a plus.
- Passion for working with disadvantaged populations.
- Bilingual ability is a plus.
- Program dates:
June 22 – August 7, 2026
