Job Description GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: SU SUCCESS Coaches are grant-funded positions supported by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education. Coaches provide individualized coaching services to a caseload of students, many of whom identify as first-generation and/or income eligible. They are responsible for developing and implementing a relationship-based coaching model that promotes overall student success and increases retention, persistence, and graduation rates by helping students strengthen self-regulation, motivation, and academic skills.
In addition, SU SUCCESS Coaches assist with the development and maintenance of programmatic materials and an academic coaching curriculum. Coaches also support and contribute to early alert and early intervention initiatives, maintain ongoing, proactive, high-touch outreach communication, and serve as key connectors among Enrollment Management & Student Success, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs, particularly when coordinating and implementing student success strategies for at-risk students.
Duties & Responsibilities Provide academic coaching to SU SUCCESS participants individually and in groups through one-on-one meetings, workshops, co-curricular programming, asynchronous outreach, and early-alert communication cycles.Deliver SU SUCCESS coaching using a variety of learning and assessment instruments, and provide academic workshops and information related to university policies and procedures.Assist in the development and maintenance of SU SUCCESS programmatic materials and an academic coaching curriculum. When possible, participate in faculty and Student Affairs training, as well as electronic academic advising platforms.Refer students, as needed, to appropriate academic and student support services while carrying out coaching responsibilities.Remain current on trends and best practices in academic coaching and student development.Represent the University at recruitment, orientation, and open house events.Maintain accurate, timely documentation, tracking, and reporting of SU SUCCESS coaching activities and outcomes using Navigate (or future platforms) and shared spreadsheets, following consistent reporting conventions in appointment summaries to support analysis and reporting.Participate in early-alert attendance and midterm grade cycles by reviewing academic progress indicators, initiating proactive outreach, and coordinating follow-up to support student academic progress.Collaborate closely with offices including CARE, Housing & Residential Services, Athletics, and Career Services & Advising to ensure continuity of support and communication for high-risk students.Design and facilitate skill-building workshops and sessions focused on academic success strategies and skill development for SU SUCCESS students, including topics such as time management, study strategies, self-advocacy, planning, and resource navigation, for use by SU SUCCESS Coaches.Support cross-campus student success initiatives through outreach, communication campaigns, and engagement with university retention priorities.Perform other duties as assigned within the duties associated with this position.Requirements
