VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center is growing its Emergency & Critical Care Service and seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our team!
Compensation: $24-30/hr starting range determined by skill set and years of experience. Financial growth opportunities available.
Schedule: Full-time, rotating weekends.
Our Emergency and Critical Care Service:
Our Emergency and Critical Care Technicians thrive in a fast‑paced service, handle critical cases, and enjoy a stimulating caseload. Technicians sharpen and advance their technical skills daily.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing high‑quality emergency care to animals in need. The team ensures that the most critical cases receive immediate attention and all patients receive the care they need.
Key Responsibilities- Triage: Perform an initial assessment to evaluate the patient’s condition quickly—checking vital signs, assessing for obvious injuries or distress, and gathering information from the pet owner.
- Venipuncture & IVC Placement: Proficiently perform venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement.
- Medication Administration: Safely and accurately administer fluids, medications, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.

Collaboration:
Work with all technical staff to ensure hospitalized patients receive optimal care and maintain open communication with the healthcare team. - Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Vigilantly monitor hospitalized patients, recognize subtle changes, and promptly report concerns to the veterinary team. Assist in departmental rounds.

Education:
Provide clear discharge instructions to clients, ensuring they understand post‑hospital care. - Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records—patient history, treatment details, client communication—and assist with cost estimates.
- Anesthesia & Sedation Monitoring: Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia to ensure safety.
- Diagnostic Imaging: Operate diagnostic imaging equipment and assist in capturing radiographs and other images.
- Laboratory Procedures: Run diagnostics (CBC, chem panel, NOVA, iSTAT, UA), correlate results with the clinical presentation, and notify veterinarians of results.
- Blood Transfusion Therapy: Include collection, administration, and monitoring of transfusion reactions.
- Administering Oxygen: Flow‑by oxygen, nasal cannula, or oxygen cage.
- Assist Doctors: Collaborate closely with veterinarians during exams, treatments, and medical procedures for emergency cases.
