Community Lender

This is a hybrid position that will serve the Indianapolis or Fishers market.

The Community Lender is responsible for proactively identifying, developing and maintaining a quality network of business relationships that serve as a source of referrals for new mortgage lending opportunities with a focus on generating mortgage applications for low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers ensuring compliance with CRA regulations and lending policies. Key duties involve community outreach, advising on loan products, and meeting sales goals while helping the bank meet its legal community obligations.

  • Business Development:
    Build relationships with community organizations, non‑profits, and affordable housing agencies to identify and solicit lending opportunities.
  • Loan Origination:
    Interview applicants to determine needs, gather documentation, and process loan applications, with a focus on LMI borrowers and underserved areas.
  • Advisory &

    Education:

    Advise customers on appropriate mortgage products, terms, and interest rates, providing guidance on financial management.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Ensure all loan activities comply with federal CRA regulations, fair lending laws and internal bank policies.
  • Reporting:
    Track, record, and report on lending activities to support the bank’s CRA performance evaluations.
  • Grant Administration & Funding:
    Identify, support and manage applicable grant and down payment assistance programs aligned with CRA and LMI objectives. Assist borrowers and community partners with grant applications; gather and review required documentation; coordinate submission, approval, processing and funding; ensure compliance with program guidelines; and maintain accurate tracking and reporting of grant activity to support CRA performance and audit requirements.
  • Reinforce superior customer service through personal example and follow‑through with involved customers and employees.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the financial industry, economy, market conditions, rates, vendors and competition.
  • Represent the bank in various community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the bank’s image and develop additional business; assist the bank in establishing and maintaining market position in the financing arena.
  • Cross‑sell the bank’s other products and services, referring customers to appropriate staff as indicated.
  • Assist in meeting annual deposit and loan growth goals assigned by senior management; participate in various internal committees assigned by senior management.
  • Respond to inquiries or refer inquiries to the appropriate department or person, and exhibit the necessary follow‑through with customers and/or staff involved.
  • Apply superior decision‑making techniques pertaining to inquiries, approvals and requests as they apply to existing policies and procedures, while staying within assigned approval limits and using these instances as learning tools for employee development.
  • Assume responsibility for special projects; gather data and prepare reports for senior management, audits and other personnel.
  • Process, solve and answer complex customer transactions, problems or inquiries.
  • Answer telephones, answer questions and direct callers to proper bank personnel.
