Position Summary

The Cloud Engineer supports the Cloud Foundation value stream within the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure IT organization helping to design, implement, and operationalize secure cloud platforms that enable safe and reliable delivery of digital services across IT, refinery, and midstream operations. This role focuses on strengthening cloud security posture across compute, storage/backup, identity, and network services through capabilities such as CSPM, CNAPP, micro‑segmentation, automation, and Infrastructure as Code.

The engineer collaborates closely with platform engineers, cybersecurity partners, and application teams to embed security controls into cloud services and delivery pipelines from design through operations.

Working as part of a scaled‑agile team, this role contributes to continuous improvement, operational maturity, and secure enablement of cloud technologies that support critical business functions. Responsibilities include continuous monitoring, remediation of misconfigurations, supporting incident response in cloud environments, and helping establish and maintain security standards and guardrails.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess current technology and contribute to developing a road map toward continual improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Actively participate in performance optimization projects for cloud‑based systems and services through conducting cost analysis for specific cloud infrastructure components and applications.
  • Assist with the implementation of service monitoring. Partner with the infrastructure support and development teams to ensure continuous availability and operational continuity of critical systems.
  • Support all aspects of the cloud development life cycle for cloud solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Support the development team and perform activities to resolve moderately complex developer issues in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Execute the troubleshooting of incidents, identify root cause, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures. Provide high‑availability operational support and develop documentation across the environment.
  • Develop build and release processes.
  • Undertake system configurations and baselines to support secure application development software control best practices and standards.
  • Write and deliver automation scripts and cloud infrastructure as code to ensure standardization, reliability, scalability, continuity, and consistency for resource deployments and maintenance.
  • Implement and manage cloud security controls across compute, networking, identity, storage, and backup services in alignment with enterprise security standards.
  • Monitor cloud security posture, investigate findings, and collaborate with engineering and operations teams to drive remediation.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience required, preferably in cloud security, cloud engineering, or infrastructure security.
  • Practical experience with CSPM, CNAPP concepts, secure cloud architecture, and cloud security controls highly preferred.
  • Experience working with automation and Infrastructure as Code to deploy or manage cloud resources securely preferred.
  • Familiarity with micro‑segmentation, network security concepts, and zero‑trust principles preferred.
