Your Role:
Project Overview &
Description:
Interns will help plan, coordinate, and execute a large field mapping program at the Poachers Ridge expansion area associated with our Lakeview, OR perlite plant. Interns will learn from experienced geologists how to manage a mapping program, including geological observations, sampling, health and safety, and standard equipment used to prepare stripped areas and trenches. Interns will also collect and utilize mapping data in an industry context, using digital mapping (QGIS), geological modeling software (Leapfrog).
Review of existing drill cores and additional sampling may be required depending on the results of field mapping.
Interns will learn how to identify various perlite textures, perlite expansions, and gain valuable experience in the volcanostratigraphy of rhyolite domes. Individuals will learn how to build a geologic database, for modeling purposes, with all of the drill core and mapping data. Assist with other geologic needs as needed such as geologic pit mapping, geologic database data entry, GIS, and PERC documentation.
Travel is required (all costs covered by Imerys)
Project Description & Deliverables:
Coordination, planning, and execution of a large field mapping program at our Poachers Ridge expansion area near Lakeview, OR. The data collected in this program will be used to upgrade a large existing inferred mineral resource to an indicated mineral resource.
- How to identify various perlite textures
- How to produce a geologic map using mapping tablets and QGIS
- How to prepare a trench or stripped area for geologic mapping
- How to collect grab and channel samples from trenches
- How to expand and analyze perlite samples
- Geologic pit mapping
- How to compile data and utilize it to produce geomodels
- How to write aspects of a technical report for PERC documentation purposes
- How to safely run a field program and interface with mining contractors
- Pursuing a degree in:
Relevant field, e.g., BS/MS Geology, etc. - Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Problem Solvers:
Enjoy collaborating to tackle challenges. - Leaders:
Demonstrate leadership in various settings, such as school clubs, sports teams, or work projects. - Authorized to Work in the U.S.
- Able to pass a drug screen and background check.
Compensation:
The wage range for this role considers various factors such as location, student classification, and major. We offer competitive wages that reflect the value of your contributions and the cost of living at the program’s geographical location.
States that require compensation on job description:
The expected hourly rate for this position is $25.00 - $34.70 per hour. Compensation decisions are dependent on graduation date.
