Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Transport Clerk to join their Felixstowe team, supporting container operations and delivering excellent service to their customers.

This is primarily a customer-focused administrative role, involving coordination with shipping lines, handling bookings, and maintaining accurate system data. For more experienced applicants, the role offers additional commercial and relationship management responsibilities, with genuine opportunity for progression.

Transport Clerk Responsibilities

Releasing containers
Booking containers with shipping lines
Inputting bookings accurately onto internal systems
Updating vessel ETAs and other operational data
Taking phone calls from customers and responding to enquiries
General data entry and administrative support
Quoting customers for new and existing business
Visiting customers to build and maintain strong relationships
Managing shared customer email inboxes
Supporting business development activities
Taking greater ownership of key customer accounts

Transport Clerk Requirements

Previous experience within shipping, containers, or freight forwarding preferred but not essential
Strong customer service and communication skills
Good attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Confident telephone manner
IT proficient
Experience quoting and handling customer accounts
Ability to build long-term client relationships
Commercial awareness
