Days of the Week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Shift Times: Daily Practices:
After 2pm for approximately 2 hours, Game Days:
Approximately 3-5 hours with travel, To be scheduled - Pre & Post season Coaches Meetings for the FWPS and NPSL.

Position Summary

High school assistant coaches work in concert with the assistant coach to ensure the growth and development of student athletes by focusing on fundamental skills instruction with an emphasis on whole child development to include expectations for academic and athletic excellence, leadership skills, and positive social relationships. Per WIAA requirements, you must be at least 19 years of age to apply for any assistant coaching positions and 21 years of age to apply for any head coaching positions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Professional Development and Leadership. Keep abreast of knowledge and techniques associated with the sport by staying current with sport-specific literature and attending clinics and workshops.
  • Responsibility for Rules and Regulations. Study and understand the rules and regulations of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), Federal Way Public Schools, and the league in which the team competes.
  • Program Promotion. Promote the sport within the school and in the community. Report scores and contest-related information to designated media and the league website immediately following each contest.
  • Program Organization. Attend practices and contests daily. Implement a system of play and/or style of instruction as directed by the head coach.
  • Standard of Care. Model safety training relative to the sport as demonstrated and directed by the head coach. Possess a working knowledge of basic athletic training skills and procedures. Perform basic taping and first aid functions.
  • Professionalism. Exercise good judgment and project positive coaching behaviors. Mold student athletes in the program and the school/community. Teach and develop basic skills fundamentals, leadership characteristics, and cooperative, team-oriented behavior. Approach the coaching role with calm, positive, contemplative and fair-minded behavior.
  • Sportsmanship and Ethics. Serve as an example of sportsmanship and humility at all times. Handle obstacles or losses with grace, dignity, and pride. Model and insist upon ethical behavior and good citizenship at all times.
  • Supervision. Responsible for participants from the time they report until the time they leave.
  • Presentation of Rules/Regulations. Understand and reinforce eligibility requirements, participation rules, and the District Eligibility Code as demonstrated and directed by the head coach.
  • Attention to Eligibility Rules. Ensure team members have completed the eligibility process before allowing participation in any form of practice activity.
  • Accident/Injury Procedure. Call 911 without hesitation for serious or difficult to assess injuries. Fill out and submit an Accident Report Form to the building athletic director within 24 hours of an injury. Report emergency situations immediately to the building athletic director and director of athletics.
  • Media Contact. Report scores promptly and accurately to local news media and the league website immediately following the event as directed.
  • Meeting Attendance. Attend building, district, league, and rules clinic meetings as scheduled and as required by Federal Way Public Schools.
  • Post-Season Awards Gathering. Work with the head coach to plan and implement a post-season gathering that includes participants from all levels of the program and parents/guardians.
  • Responsibility for Playing Facility and Equipment. Immediately report safety concerns to the head coach and assume responsibility for the care of equipment and facilities used in the program.
  • Violations and Ejections Procedure. Report a violation and/or ejection to the head coach, building athletic director, and director of athletics immediately following the contest where the infraction occurred.
  • Coach Evaluation Process. Attend an evaluation meeting with the building athletic director following the season.
  • Assistant Coach as Program Leader. Meet regularly with the head coach to discuss program goals and ensure consistent presentation and implementation of skills, systems, and strategies at all levels.
  • Responsibility for Program Equipment, Supplies, and Inventory. Account for all program-related items checked out at the start of the season.
  • Program Purchases. Request essential program needs through the head coach; do not purchase items with personal funds.
  • Fundraising Activities. Work through the head coach to discuss potential fundraising activities; do not raise or handle funds without advance approval from the building athletic director.
