Hours per Day: 2.0 - 4.0 (approx) Hours per Day/Weekly, Season Stipend: $4,160-$5,528
Days of the Week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Shift Times:
Daily Practices after 2pm for approximately 2 hours;
Game Days: approximately 3-5 hours with travel;
To be scheduled - Pre & Post season Coaches Meetings for the FWPS and NPSL.
- Professional Development and Leadership:
The assistant coach will keep abreast of knowledge and techniques by staying current with sport-specific literature and attending clinics and workshops. - Responsibility for Rules and Regulations:
The assistant coach will study and understand the rules of the sport, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), Federal Way Public Schools, and the league in which the team competes. - Program Promotion:
Promote the sport within the school and community; report scores and contest-related information to designated media and the league website immediately following each contest. - Program Organization:
Attend practices and contests daily; rare absences require illness/personal emergency clearance in advance with the building athletic director; implement a system of play and/or instruction as directed by the head coach. - Standard of Care:
Model safety training; maintain working knowledge of basic athletic training skills and procedures; capable of basic taping and first aid. - Professionalism:
Exercise good judgment, project positive coaching behaviors, and contribute to student-athlete development, leadership, teamwork, and ethics. - Sportsmanship and Ethics:
Model ethical behavior and good citizenship; exhibit sportsmanship and humility at all times. - Supervision:
Responsible for participants from report to departure. - Presentation of Rules/Regulations:
Understand and reinforce eligibility requirements, participation rules, and the District Eligibility Code as directed by the head coach. - Attention to Eligibility Rules:
Ensure team members complete eligibility processes before participation. - Accident/Injury Procedure:
Call 911 for serious injuries; file an Accident Report Form within 24 hours; report emergencies to the building athletic director and director of athletics. - Media Contact:
Report scores promptly to local media and league websites as directed. - Meeting Attendance:
Attend building, district, league, and rules clinic meetings as scheduled by Federal Way Public Schools. - Post-Season Awards Gathering:
Collaborate with the head coach to plan a post-season gathering including participants from all levels and parents/guardians. - Responsibilities for Playing Facility and Equipment:
Report safety concerns; care for equipment and facilities used in the program. - Violations and Ejections Procedure:
Report violations/ejections to the head coach, building athletic director, and director of athletics immediately after the contest. - Coach Evaluation Process:
Attend an evaluation meeting with the building athletic director after the season. - Assistant Coach as Program Leader:
Meet regularly with the head coach to discuss program goals and ensure consistent skill, system, and strategy presentation and implementation at all levels. - Responsibilities for Program Equipment, Supplies, and Inventory:
Account for all program-related items checked out at the start of the season. - Program Purchases:
Request essential program needs through the head coach; do not purchase items with personal funds. - Fundraising
Activities:
Coordinate fundraising through the head coach; do not raise or handle funds without advance approval from the building athletic director. - Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient operation and support student learning objectives.
High school assistant coaches work with the head coach to ensure the growth and development of student athletes by focusing on fundamental skills instruction and promoting academic and athletic excellence, leadership, and positive social relationships.
Per WIAA requirements, you must be at least 19 years of age to apply for any assistant coaching positions and 21 years of age to apply for any head coaching positions.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; prior sport-specific playing and/or coaching experience in a secondary/post-secondary athletics program or related club coaching; proven training and experience in drills, safety factors, and proper skill application.
Additional Requirements
- Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of paid high school and/or post-secondary sport-specific coaching experience and/or related club coaching experience.
- Completion of the National Federation Coaching Fundamentals Course (including passing the test).
