Hours per Day: 2.0 – 4.0 Hours Day/Week (approx), Season Stipend: $5,331–$7,085 DOE
Days of the Week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Shift Times:
Daily Practices:
After 2pm for approximately 2 hours;
Game Days:
Approximately 3–5 hours with travel

Position Summary

High school head coaches oversee the growth and development of student athletes by focusing on fundamental skills instruction with an emphasis on whole child development to include expectations for academic and athletic excellence, leadership skills, and positive social relationships.

Eligibility

Per WIAA requirements, applicants must be at least 19 years of age for assistant coaching positions and 21 years of age for head coaching positions.

Responsibilities
  • Professional Development and Leadership. Keep abreast of knowledge and techniques associated with the sport by staying current with sport-specific literature and attending clinics and workshops.
  • Responsibility for Rules and Regulations. Study rules of the WIAA, Federal Way Public Schools, and the league.
  • Program Promotion. Promote the sport within the school and community, report scores to media and league website immediately after contests.
  • Program Organization. Hold daily practices, schedule sessions, determine system of play for all teams.
  • Standard of Care. Provide safety training to participants and assistant coaches, maintain safety records, perform basic first aid and taping.
  • Professionalism. Exercise good judgment, project positive coaching behaviors, develop leadership and team‑oriented behavior.
  • Sportsmanship and Ethics. Model sportsmanship, humility, pride, ethical behavior, and good citizenship at all times.
  • Supervision. Responsible for participants from reporting to departure.
  • Presentation of Rules/Regulations. Explain eligibility, participation rules to participants early in season.
  • Eligibility Rules. Ensure participants completed eligibility process before practice.
  • Accident/Injury Procedure. Call 911, file accident report, report to athletic director.
  • Media Contact. Report scores promptly to media and league website.
  • Meeting Attendance. Attend building, district, league, and rules clinic meetings as required.
  • Post‑Season Awards Gathering. Coordinate post‑season gathering with parents and guardians.
  • Scheduling. Make scheduling recommendations; do not schedule own contests except weather make‑up contests.
  • Responsibility for Playing Facility and Equipment. Monitor condition, recommend improvements, report safety concerns.
  • Violations and Ejections Procedure. Report violation or ejection immediately after contest.
  • Program Cut and Awards Criteria. Develop/maintain criteria for program cuts and awards, share with participants and parents.
  • Seasonal Summary Sheet and Coach Evaluation Process. Attend evaluation meeting, present program inventory.
  • Head Coach as Program Leader. Meet regularly with assistant coaches to provide leadership, share expectations, coordinate program goals.
  • Camps and Clinics. Seek approval for camp or clinic programs involving FWP players, coaches, and facilities.
  • Travel. Seek approval for all travel requests; travel in accordance with policy, within Northwest, no time lost from school.
  • Responsibility for Program Equipment, Supplies, and Inventory. Complete annual inventory, retrieve equipment, submit fine list, mark items with school , coordinate repair, storage, cleaning, and laundering after season.
  • Annual Budget Request. Prepare and submit annual budget request with current inventory.
  • Fundraising Activities. Seek approval and complete required paperwork for fundraising activities.
  • Other Related Duties. Perform duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and support student learning objectives.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Three years of sport‑specific playing and/or coaching experience in a secondary and/or post‑secondary athletics program and/or related club coaching experience.
