Overview
Poverty Bay Café & Bakery is seeking an experienced Part/Full-time Barista (32-37 hours) to work the mornings and mid-afternoon shifts. We serve breakfast all day and then lunch 11 am–close. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, has a minimum of 2 years of barista experience, and who enjoys making a difference in someone’s day. We work to serve our community in as many ways as possible!
The pay for this position is $18/hr PLUS tips. This position will require you to take orders, run food, make espresso beverages on a manual machine, make blended drinks, heat up pastries, do general housekeeping (sweep/mop, clean tables/glass, dishes) of the café, and assist our guests with any request that we may be able to fill. In addition to barista duties, you will be responsible for team leadership, opening/closing front of house, and assisting the manager in front-of-house duties.
We are open 7 days a week from 7am to 3pm. We strive for fresh, locally sourced products, made-from-scratch recipes, and sustainable, direct-trade, shade-grown coffee. We expect our customers to have the best experience we can provide.
Responsibilities- Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of FUSION/Poverty Bay Café.
- Receive and process guest payments.
- Prepare or serve hot or cold beverages, such as coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees, or teas.
- Take guest orders and convey them to other employees for preparation.
- Provide guests with product details, such as coffee blends or preparation descriptions.
- Describe menu items to guests or suggest menu items and specials.
- Serve prepared foods, such as muffins, bagels, or other pastries.
- Prepare or serve menu items, such as sandwiches or salads.
- Run food to guests in a timely manner.
- Clean or sanitize work areas, utensils, or equipment.
- Clean service or seating areas.
- Wash dishes.
- Set up or restock product displays.
- Grind coffee beans for guests.
- Stock guest service stations with paper products or beverage preparation items.
- Stock supplies or retail products.
- Slice fruits, vegetables, desserts, or meats for use in food service.
- Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, or heating equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Demonstrate the use of retail equipment, such as espresso machines.
- Attend all scheduled employee meetings.
- Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant.

- Minimum of 2 years of barista experience.
- Self-motivated and customer-focused.
- Ability to lead and support front-of-house operations as part of the team.
