SALARY
: $25.00 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports students and families for whom English is their second language. This position will work with students K-12, parents, and school district staff, most often including attending and interpreting at student-led conferences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. - Ensure communication is understood between family members, staff, and students; repeat interpretation as requested.
- Interpret communications by others to facilitate understanding students or presenters' information to better connect the student's academic status with family and staff.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must pass interpreter test (This test is proctored through the District office)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Proficiency in using the English language.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years college-level coursework
Recognized two (2) year interpreter training program
Washington State Interpreter Certification
Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment Certification
Educational interpreting experience
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Criminal background clearance
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
KNOWLEDGE OF:
The role of an Educational Interpreter within the educational team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
The employee in this position will frequently sit up to 30 minutes at a time, and handle/grasp throughout their shift. Near and far vision is required. The employee must be able to occasionally stand, walk, lift, carry, reach, bend/stoop, twist, and squat/kneel. This position rarely requires climbing/balancing or lifting bench to shoulder or overhead. The employee is required to constantly lift up to 10 lbs;
frequently lift up to 25 lbs; and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Weights over 50 lbs should be done with a mechanical lift or with help from another person. The employee will occasionally push/pull up to 20 lbs.
