The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for an Equipment Operator III for our Public Services Department to operate medium and heavy power-driven equipment requiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (such as refuse trucks, yard waste trucks, excavators, road-graders, knuckle boom truck, etc.), to assist with the collection of municipal solid waste, recycling materials and other debris removal from City streets and rights-of-way, as well as to maintain and upkeep streets, rights-of-way, parks, horticulture, cemeteries, and other City property.
Acts as a lead worker on a crew; and to perform other maintenance related duties as assigned.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two years of experience involving the skilled operation of refuse equipment or heavy construction and maintenance equipment in parks, cemeteries, horticultural environments, street repair/maintenance or related field.
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS
Required:
Possession of a Class B CDL, ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months of hire, and ability to maintain insurability. Ability to obtain a Forklift certification within six months. Applicants with an active Class A CDL are preferred.
Preferred:
Flagger Training certification;
Confined Space Entry certification;
Work Zone Safety certification; FEMA training certification;
First Aid certification;
Jet Rodder training completion;
Lift Truck Instructor certification;
Trenching certification; AED certification.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, physical abilities test, background check and driving history check.
