Shift

Hours:

The Transit Department provides bus services 7 days a week. Applicants must be available to work during the following hours:

  • Monday – Saturday: 4:55 AM – 10:30 PM
  • Sunday: 8:30 AM – 7:30 PM
Responsibilities
  • Safety – safe operation of your bus and the well‑being of your passengers.
  • Customer Service – respond to customer inquiries concerning transit information, provide comfortable rides, and collect proper fares.
  • Schedule Adherence – provide reliable and consistent bus route service according to publicly advertised schedules.
Experience

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be six months of experience operating buses or similar equipment, or completion of the NC Division of Motor Vehicles entry‑level driver training (ELDT) program within the last six months, and an acceptable driving record in accordance with the City of Fayetteville Driving Standard.

Training

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Licensing & Certifications

Required: Current DOT Medical Card;
North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with endorsements for air brakes and passengers at the time of employment, and ability to maintain insurability.

Preferred: First Aid certification; CPR certification.

Background Checks

SBI/Fingerprinting Criminal History Record Check Requirement:
Applicants offered a position may be subject to a criminal history record check of State and National repositories of criminal histories conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation in accordance with G.S. 143B‑1209.26. The City may consider the results of these checks in its hiring decisions.

Selection Process

From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4–6 weeks. It will consist of a panel interview followed by a pre‑employment DOT drug screen, DOT physical, background check, and driving history check.
