About the Position
The Transit department provides bus services 7 days a week. Interested applicants must be available to work during the following hours of operation:
- Monday–Saturday between the hours of 4:55 AM and 10:30 PM
- Sunday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 7:30 PM
As a FAST Transit Operator you must be attentive, have good judgment, be professional, have safe driving habits, and most importantly be able to provide great customer service.
Responsibilities- Safety – the safe operation of your bus and the well‑being of your passengers.
- Customer Service – responding to customer inquiries concerning transit information, providing a comfortable ride, and collecting proper fares.
- Schedule Adherence – providing reliable and consistent bus route service according to publicly advertised schedules.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Six months of experience operating buses or similar equipment or completion of the NC Division of Motor Vehicles entry‑level driver training (ELDT) program within the last six months and an acceptable driving record in accordance with the City of Fayetteville Driving Standard.
Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Licensing & Certifications- Required: A current DOT Medical Card;
North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with an endorsement for air brakes and a passenger endorsement at the time of employment and ability to maintain insurability. - Preferred:
First Aid certification; CPR certification.
SBI/Fingerprinting Criminal History Record Check Requirement:
To comply with Sessions Law 2025-16, applicants offered a position with the City may be subject to a criminal history record check of state and national repositories of criminal histories conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) in accordance with G.S. 143B‑1209.26. The City may consider the results of these criminal history record checks in its hiring decisions.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4–6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre‑employment DOT drug screen, DOT physical, background check, and a driving history check.
